TOPIC 1 : “From Bump to Bowel: Navigating GI Changes”
OBJECTIVES:
Identify the physiological and hormonal changes in the gastrointestinal system during pregnancy and postpartum, and their implications for bowel dysfunction.
Analyze the musculoskeletal and neurological contributions to postpartum GI dysfunction, including the role of intra-abdominal pressure, the pelvic floor, and the autonomic nervous system.
Apply evidence-based interventions, including manual therapy, movement strategies, and health foundation contributions to optimize bowel function and gut health in postpartum individuals.
TOPIC 2 – “When the Diaphragm and the Pelvic Floor Disagree: Orthopedic Foundations in Abdominophrenic Dyssynergia”
OBJECTIVES :
-
Explore the anatomical and neurological connections between the cervical spine to the pelvic floor, and how dysfunction can contribute to abdominophrenic dyssynergia.
-
Assess key orthopedic and respiratory dysfunctions, including cervico/thoracic mobility restrictions, altered intra-abdominal pressure, and dysfunctional breathing patterns, that influence pelvic floor function.
-
Apply evidence-based orthopedic and manual therapy interventions to restore coordination between the diaphragm and pelvic floor, improving core stability and visceral function.
